From Blueprint to Fit-Up

Practice the shipfitter’s sequence: read the drawing → establish a reference → measure → fit → check → correct → verify.

Learning path · Levels 1–8

Build from shipyard fundamentals through a virtual inspection. Each module pairs a concise explanation with a drawing exercise and a coaching quiz.

  1. Level 1 — Fundamentals: roles, steel parts, terminology, shop safety, tools, and controlled drawings.
  2. Level 2 — Measurement and layout: instruments, datums, baselines, tolerances, and measurement transfer.
  3. Level 3 — Blueprints and weld symbols: views, sections, details, revisions, weld location and supplementary symbols.
  4. Level 4 — Cutting and edge preparation: preparation geometry, cleaning, and procedure-driven joint prep.
  5. Level 5 — Shipfitting and assembly: clamping, shimming, tack planning, fit-up, and measurement-error diagnosis.
  6. Level 6 — Welding literacy: process/position recognition, weld requirements, and inspection fundamentals.
  7. Level 7 — Straightening and quality: distortion awareness, qualified correction decisions, tolerance checks, and records.
  8. Level 8 — Job simulation: interpret, lay out, prepare, fit, inspect, and explain a small assembly.

Prototype 01 · Seven lesson modules

Interactive schematic drawings are for recognition and measurement practice only; always follow approved project documents and site procedures.

  1. Level 1 · Shipyard fundamentals: Parts, people, and shop language — Recognize the people, steel parts, and terms used during a basic fit-up.
  2. Level 2 · Measurements and layout: Read dimensions without guessing — Interpret millimetre dimensions, chain dimensions, baseline dimensions, and tolerances.
  3. Level 2 · Measurements and layout: Establish the reference system — Distinguish a datum, baseline, centerline, station line, and offset.
  4. Level 3 · Blueprints and weld symbols: Read the weld symbol as an instruction — Identify arrow side, other side, fillet and groove symbols, and supplementary notes.
  5. Level 3 · Blueprint interpretation: Connect elevations, sections, and details — Use view labels, cut markers, detail bubbles, scale, part marks, material, and revision data.
  6. Level 2/5 · Measurement transfer and fit-up: Transfer the drawing to the assembly — Establish the reference, mark, measure, and position before tacking.
  7. Level 4/6 · Steel measurement and joint preparation: Measure steel and prepare the joint — Use suitable measuring tools and recognize preparation defects without substituting for a WPS.
